My Contributions

  • Lead Publisher
    • Used a new tool for the first time and published 100+ hours of design work in time for Sustainability Report go-live (launch)
    • Lead go-live publishing activities while commanding support from the technical support team and redirects team to ensure seamless transition from 2019 to 2020 report content
    • Performed extensive quality checks both before and after go-live to make sure all content was accessible and fully-functioning
    • Ran reports with the tool SiteImprove to ensure WCAG compliance and quality assurance with spelling, links, etc.
    • Ongoing analytics monitoring during the first 3 months after go-live; notably highest viewership (from 2018-2024 time range) recorded

Notable Outcomes:

  • Established a new standard for the sustainability report's online presence with engaging, custom content that still met Deere brand and design standards, as well as WCAG accessibility compliance
  • 8 unique interactive experiences were created within two months, each optimized for desktop, tablet, and mobile views.
  • The project confirmed viability of using the new tool (Creator - now called Fastr) for future custom publishing needs
  • Highest user engagement of all time for sustainability content at Deere, prior to the launch of About.Deere.com in 2023

In late 2020, John Deere was gearing up to publish its annual sustainability report with lofty goals in mind: This year, they wanted to breathe life into the data and statistics by leveraging animations in the webpage designs. At the same time, I was demoing a new tool (ZMAGs Creator, now known as FASTR) that would enable us to do just that. It was the perfect opportunity to pair up and create a truly wonderful and educating user experience.

Without my new-found expertise in Creator, it would have taken more than half a year of planning to implement the desired effects by the Deere.com development team; that was time that the brand team couldn't spare.

The result was exciting and functional for desktop, tablet, and mobile users: I was successful in building 8 animated and interactive stories along with the sustainability report home page, story pages (linking to the interactive stories as in-window experiences) and CEO letter page. The experience was also WCAG (accessibility) compliant within Deere's virtual environment (it may not be WCAG compliant in this portfolio).

Unfortunately, this content has no live page sample since Sustainability Report content was updated annually. Please refer to the screenshots and “Read Story” button above to get a sense of what it was like in its prime.
